Welcome to The Wine Data Researcher blog, I’m Alice van Ommeren.

After decades of professional experience in higher education analyzing data and leading research projects, my interests have turned towards the use of data and research in the wine industry in making business decisions and planning strategically.

I’ve spent the last few years learning about the industry by immersing myself in wine literature, reading industry reports, following the wine news, taking wine courses, attending professional conferences, joining the social media conversations and becoming wine certified.

The Wine Data Researcher blog was created as a platform for sharing this journey of exploration with other wine industry professionals. The blog explores data sources, analyzes official reports, interprets research articles and most importantly identifies strategies using data and research in making wine related business or policy decisions.

I recently completed a certificate in Wine Business Management from the Wine Business Institute at Sonoma State University and completed Level 2 of the WSET. I currently serve on the Marketing Committee of the Petaluma Gap Winegrowers Alliance and the City of Petaluma, Historic and Cultural Preservation Committee.
